Interpretation:

The process of understanding and analyzing a spoken message in a source language and re-expressing that message accurately and objectively in another target language while taking the cultural and social context into account. Interpretation is a complex, demanding task that requires an excellent command of languages, possession of skills and abilities specific to interpretation, and knowledge of the subject matter being interpreted. Languages used professionally by translators, or working languages, are maintained at a high level of proficiency as being bilingual alone is not sufficient for interpreters.
Languages R Us Inc. specializes in legal, medical, and business interpreting assignments. We provide state certified or qualified consecutive and simultaneous interpreters to clients in every field.  Our legal interpreters are familiar with the procedures and terminology used in depositions, arbitrations, examinations under oath, investigative statements, hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings. In legal interpreting, the interpreter works in either the consecutive or simultaneous mode while under oath. We also provide certified/qualified medical interpreters for Independent Medical Exams, Qualified Medical Exams, and Agreed Medical Exams.

In order to ensure high quality interpretation, Languages R Us provides coordination between the client and the interpreter as necessary; the client should be prepared to provide background information pertaining to the interpretation assignment.  The following factors should be considered during this process: the setting, venue, language needs, technological needs and the availability of preparatory documents and materials. Prior to the scheduled date of assignment if the interpreting request is of a technical nature, the interpreter should be provided with any technical preparatory documents, materials and any glossary of any prior depositions involving technical or specialized terminology.  In order to provide accurate interpretation of expert testimony, interpreters should be provided with documentation in advance in order to research the subject. The interpreter is selected based on the source and target languages for the assignment and special dialects may be relevant, and are taken into consideration when scheduling interpreters for assignments.

LRU interpreters follow the California & New York judicial administrative guidelines for court interpreters guaranteeing accurate interpretation without paraphrasing, omitting, or editing the source language into the target language.  Interpreters ensure that the official record of the proceeding in English reflects precisely what a non-English speaking witness stated in another language.  Our interpreter’s mission is to place non-English speaking witnesses on an equal footing with those who understand/speak English.  Every detail of information contained in the original statement is repeated as close to verbatim as syntax and grammar will allow.

Consecutive Interpretation:

Consecutive interpreting is the most informal type of interpreting, frequently requested, and common in business and SIU (Special Investigations Unit) settings, where the interpreter works in both language directions.   Consecutive interpreting is appropriate for business meetings, investigative interviews, court proceedings, or small group visits.  No equipment is required as the interpreter passes information between the two parties. Consecutive interpretation is likely to take longer than simultaneous interpretation as the interpreter waits for one party to finish speaking before interpreting for the other party, and may take up to twice as long as simultaneous interpretation.  However, the consecutive mode also gives participants the opportunity to focus on the language they understand without having to decipher different language sounds at once, making communication more efficient.

Simultaneous Interpretation:

Simultaneous interpretation requires the interpreter to listen, analyze, comprehend, convert, edit, and reproduce in real time from the source language to the target language while a speaker continues to speak in a specific social context.  The interpretation may be from one language into another only (unidirectional) or back and forth between languages (bi-directional).
